Alley Cat Books
Books by Megan Herring Text by Adrian Lawson
Alley Cat Nomad was destined to be an unpublished manuscript, never to be seen or read by the general public. This made me question the significance of the actuality and importance in the of reading as opposed to the writing a text.
In response the minute size of the font makes it nearly unreadable questioning it’s overall significance; as an unpublished book it is like a secret, now published in new formats it’s kept secret still; it’s tiny words mirror the mystique of Melbourne’s laneways and streets, an important element of the actual text.
The books we read tend to take us on a journey and these books are intended to make the act of reading part of that journey. The act of reading becomes more a search or exploration as the non standard formats change and demand more from the physical process of reading.
